Hypercomputing in the 21st Century (16th November 2021)

John Hammant, Head of Compute at Amazon will be our after dinner speaker giving an insider overview of how the world of Computing has changed over the last 20 years, and insights into how cloud is powering this exponential change.

He will detail out the large changes that are occurring in the new world of IT, moving from a manual, and isolated world of development, into a new, hyperconnected, exponential world, which is now moving at an increasing pace. He’ll discuss the new API / Serverless / Containers / Kubernetes revolution, and how this is changing what it means at it’s core to deliver software or services. He’ll detail our advances in Hypercomputing, and what the advances happening today, will cause to the world of technology, and everyday life in the future.

About our distinguised speaker: Jon Hammant, Amazon Web Services

Jon Hammant is Head of Compute of Compute for Amazon Web Services. He leads their EC2, Containers, Spot, HPC, Visual Computing, Networking, and Serverless businesses, as well as helping incubate Autonomous Vehicles, Quantum Computing and more. Prior to this Jon lead the DevOps and Full-Stack Engineering businesses for Accenture. Before this he has had a number of different roles, specialising in the financial services industry, including Head of Infrastructure for Financial Markets at Standard Charted Bank, and Head of Low Latency Support and Deutsche Bank. He has loved computing since an early age, coding in BBC Basic at age 4, getting his GCSE Information Systems at 11, his Computer Science A-Level at 12, then going on to get a 2:1 for Computer Science (BSc) at the University of Reading. He’s very severely dyslexic, but this has helped him by thinking different has helped him in the world of technology to hopefully change the world.
