Chair: Dr John L Collins

John is Operations & Commercial Director at Imperial College’s national Synthetic Biology start-up facility, SynbiCITE. He has a wealth of experience in the science and technology start-up world & is very active in the sector, particularly in entrepreneurship training with business start-up to scale-up. SynbiCITE is a national centre for any start-up with technology involving synthetic biology – the engineering of biology – connecting multiple centres of excellent across the UK & is located in Imperial College London with shared wet-lab facilities, technical support, business support and funding.

John helps with science or deep-tech ventures in many areas; he’s very experienced at supporting a wide variety of start-ups, providing business and entrepreneurship training globally, & judges on multiple business pitching events worldwide. John has a particular interest in sustainability, responsible innovation including science & technology ethics & governance.

He’s had a varied portfolio career including R&D, product

development, technical sales, business development, international development for a trade association, innovation & digital creativity growth, in educational services, as an NED for a biotech company & for a medical Imaging company & as a trained chef.

Throughout his careers John has run his own ‘Disruptive Technologies & Innovations Management’ consultancy – Innovation Foundry Ltd. – & continues to work with a diverse spread of technologies, from biotechnology to lab-grown meat to plastics recovery-to-reprocessing technology to AI, mentoring and supporting wherever needed.

Treasurer: Kevin Streater

Kevin is a leader in the IT Learning and Development industry and currently Director, Global Training at ForgeRock. Prior to ForgeRock, Kevin was Executive Director – IT at Telecoms, at The Open University after having spent nearly 20 years in various service delivery, project management and training leadership roles at Sun Microsystems. Kevin has acted as an independent consultant to the SFIA Foundation, City & Guilds, Hudson IT Recruitment and the Isle of Man Government, and is a recognised expert in IT skills development frameworks.

Kevin is a Chartered Fellow and vice-chair of Council of the BCS – The Chartered Institute for IT and sits on the BCS Learning & Development specialist group committee. He is also a Director of CEdMA (Computer Education Managers Association), Fellow and Advisory Board member of the Learning and Performance Institute, member of the SFIA 6 project board and is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, and external lecturer at City University, London.

Kevin was formerly Chairman and Trustee Director of Richard Cloudesley’s Charity, a historic endowed charity engaged in funding inner-city welfare and health improvement.

Kevin holds a BSc. (Hons) in Computer Science from City University, London, and an MBA from The Open University.
