Chasing the Drone Ghost on a Flying Carpet (25th October 2022)

On Tuesday the 25th of October we welcome Shaun Ryles MBE, drone and aviation counter-terrorist expert as our after dinner speaker; Shaun will enlighten us on all-things-drone including, for example, how he is advising the Qatari Ministry of Interior on counter drone prep for the World Cup.

About our Speaker

Shaun is a senior military officer with over 30 years of experience in planning and delivering aviation counter-terrorist operations in high threat environments.

During the past 4+ years he has been the UK Ministry of Defence subject matter expert on the integration of military counter drone capabilities into civilian airports and major national events in the UK to counter drone incursions.

He has led the military response to high profile drone incursions especially airports and has been at the forefront of development of C-UAS (counter-unmanned air systems) strategy and planning for the protection of critical infrastructure.

He is often deployed as the UK Ministry of Defence subject matter expert for counter-drone activity to assist UK defence diplomacy activities with foreign Governments including several visits to the Gulf region.

Currently the lead UK C-UAS advisor to the Qatar based World Cup 2022.

He is a fluent Spanish speaker, holds Master’s degrees in International Relations from Cambridge, Business and Strategic Leadership from the University of the Mexican Army and Air Force.
